San Diego is a big tourist area so it’s no surprise that this city is home to some great family outdoor attractions, museums, theatres and amazing hiking trails.

If you’re looking for the ideal vacation spot for you and your family, San Diego is the place to go.  Enjoy a day at LEGOLAND with lots of fun rides and great attractions including the DUPLO village, Castle Hill, Enchanted Walk and Daytona Speedway.

Another fun family day out and about is the San Diego Zoo Safari Park; this park is home to 3,500 animals including rhinos, lions and antelope. See them all in their natural habitat. The San Diego Zoo itself is home to a further 800 species and is the world’s largest zoo. See everything from spiders to cuddly Panda Bears.

Belmont Park is a beautiful beach front amusement park and offers mini golf and a roller coaster from 1925. Belmont Park is also a large concert venue. Birch Aquarium at Scripps is another great family attraction offering lots of marine exhibits from sharks to peaceful and colorful coral reefs.

Spend a day at the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. This floating museum was home to 250,000 sea men in its day and offers amazing coastal views of San Diego. It includes sixty exhibits and you can see how these sea men lived including the flight deck, sleeping quarters and carrier jail.

The Natural History Museum is a must to see with dinosaurs, photographic galleries and children’s play and learn center. Admission includes a 3D movie which is shown daily. Reuben H Reuben Science Center is an attraction for children of all ages and is also home to IMAX Theatre. See images from telescopes, hands on learning, build skyscrapers, and learn about the history of NASA and so much more.

Air and Space Museum is another must see with its 3D theatre. See all types of flight exhibits from hot air balloons to space shuttles. Enjoy a 3D thrill which makes you feel like you are flying.

Wave House Athletic Club offers plunge pools and waves, enabling the whole family to go surfing or body boarding in a completely safe environment.  But if that’s not enough spend the day at Knott’s Soak City Waterpark. The Waterpark is thirty three acres of soaking wet rides from group rafts to body slides. On a hot summers day there is also Wide Rivers Waterpark with forty water rides and wave pools.

Coronado Ferry is a fifteen minute ride from Downtown San Diego where you can visit the beautiful Coronado Island.  Spend the day visiting the shops, market, restaurants and enjoy the magnificent architecture.

Miramar Speed Circuit is an indoor kart track which is exciting for the entire family, race against each other or the clock in karts that can reach forty miles an hour. An exhilarating and fun way to spend the day.

La Jolla is a great place for kayaking, bicycling and snorkeling. Hire kayaks by the hour or spend the day bicycling along the coastal paths.  Have a leisurely walk along the Pacific Beach boardwalk or the Crystal Pier.

If it’s outdoor adventure you’re after in this wonderful city with its outstanding warm climate, there are some great mountain ranges which offer fantastic hiking opportunities. Cowles Mountain is the highest in San Diego, closely followed by Black Mountain and Mount Soledad. 

Torrey Pines State Reserve, Mission Trails Regional Park and Tecolote Canyon Natural Park all offer wonderful scenic walking, hiking and bicycling opportunities.

After a day of fun in the sun, you may want to enjoy a quiet romantic dinner. There is a lot of Mexican and Spanish cuisine in San Diego, with it being adjacent to the Mexican border.

The Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse and San Diego Repertory Theatre all offer great theatrical productions which is a fantastic way to wind down after a day of sun filled fun.
